David R. (Dave) Seibold is Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair in the Technology Management Program, College of Engineering, at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is Director of the Graduate Program in Management Practice (GPMP).  Dave teaches TMP courses on Innovation and Team Processes; Interpersonal, Team and Organizational Effectiveness; and Managing for Innovation. He also teaches the MTM course on Leading Technology Teams and the Field Projects and Leadership Practicum.

Dave’s research investigates team processes, innovation and organizational change, organizational communication, and collaborative technologies.  He is the co-author of three books, has published 150 articles and chapters, and has presented 250 conference papers. His articles have appeared in Academy of Management Review, Journal of Organizational Change Management, Small Group Research, Journal of Family Business Management, Simulations & Games, Management Communication Quarterly, Journal of Business Communication, Journal of Language and Social Psychology, and Business Communication Quarterly among 40 others. Dave is an elected Fellow of the International Communication Association, a Distinguished Scholar of the National Communication Association, and the recipient of career awards for scholarship, teaching and mentoring, and professional service.

Dave received a Ph.D. from Michigan State University, was a faculty member at Purdue University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has been a distinguished visiting professor and lectured at more than two dozen universities worldwide. Since joining USCB in 1990, Dave has held service leadership roles including six years as Chair of the Department of Communication and four years on the Committee on Academic Personnel (CAP) -- the last year as Committee Chair.  A former editor of the Journal of Applied Communication Research, Dave has been member of the editorial boards of thirteen journals, and he has reviewed for numerous other journals including Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Language and Social Psychology, Human Relations, and Academy of Management Review, as well as for commercial publishers, university presses, and funding agencies. He has been a member of external review teams for doctoral program at major universities, and he has served as an external referee for more than 50 personnel cases in four disciplines at more than 30 universities in the United States and abroad. Dave also has consulted with more than 75 business, government, health, and service organizations at over 120 sites.
