Fasten your seatbelts…another year like no other!

Welcome (back), Gauchos! I hope you all had a great summer. It’s the start of a new school year and we’ve been working hard over the summer planning the curriculum, talking to prospective and incoming students, and putting up a new mural wall on our Executive Learning Facility classroom in Phelps Hall.

Last year, we welcomed our inaugural class for the Master of Technology Management (MTM) Program at UC Santa Barbara, and learned a lot from this extraordinary first cohort. We are energized to engage with our newest cohort, the Class of 2017 in the MTM program!

We received a competitive pool of applications this year, with 26 students showing drive and distinction to accept this challenge and thrive in our program. We are pleased to welcome this diverse group of students – from the broad range of tech work experience to the various disciplines represented.

This year, we have our first cohort mixing a significant number of international students with U.S. students. It’s a diverse group with tremendous energy and enthusiasm, and we expect great things from this cohort.

A few fun facts about our incoming class:

Nearly 80% have science or engineering backgrounds: Disciplines represented include Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Chemical, and Mathematics, and our first Physics

Some are from other disciplines, including: Economics, business, aeronautical, civil, high tech manufacturing, religious studies, and industrial engineering

Our students have worked at a some well-known companies and organizations: Yardi, Flir, Aerospace Corp, Bank of America, Bank of China, CB-Richard Ellis, Dow Chemical, EpiPatch, FireEye, Gigavac, HongKong Shanghai Bank Corp (HSBC), Kaplan, Mahindra & Mahindra, Moon Juice, Northrop Grumman, Schlumberger, Sony, SoCal Gold Products (!), Thomas Publishing, TNT Fireworks, U.S. Navy, University of Toronto, Verizon, Videobeat Networks, and Wells Fargo

Many have global experience and speak a second language: Austrian, Bulgarian, Canadian, Chilean, Chinese (Mandarin), Costa Rican, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Kazakh, Pakistani, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Taiwanese

This group is a bright, motivated and diverse group and we can’t wait to get started in the classroom.

Can you picture yourself here? Now is the perfect time to start planning for next Fall.
