Technology from UCSB Startup Showcased at Major AR Conference

2017 Augmented World Expo: Keynote introducing Project Chalk and demo (starts at 7:49)

At the annual 2017 Augmented World Expo in Santa Clara, California, leading augmented reality platform Vuforia demonstrated their latest software application, Project Chalk, that lets users interact with others through video calling. It integrates the technology from UC Santa Barbara startup company Caugnate into Vuforia's platform, the industry's most advanced and widely adopted AR technology.

Based on research developed at the Four Eyes Lab at UC Santa Barbara, Matthew Turk, a professor of computer science and of media arts and technology, co-founded Caugnate and developed the software to support augmented reality-based remote collaboration. Caugnate was acquired by Parametric Technology/Caugnate (PTC) and is now part of PTC’s Vuforia. Turk and his graduate students entered Caugnate into the annual the 2015 New Venture Competition and were among the finalist teams in the competition finals.
