Technology Management's Distinguished Speaker Series is one of the program's premier events. This quarterly series features leaders from academia or industry who have distinguished themselves as experts in their fields. Drawing from prominent academic researchers, experienced business professionals, and successful entrepreneurs this series gives UC Santa Barbara's students as well as the community the rare opportunity to learn directly from those who have excelled through innovation and dedication to their work.

This presentation will focus on the lifelong learnings of Dr. Vicki Halsey about how to thrive in life and in organizations, through insights gleaned from years of designing and delivering Leadership programs for numerous Fortune 100 companies such as Apple, Nike, Intel, Lowes, NBA, and Wells Fargo. You will experience Vicki’s simple yet profound teaching style as she shares secrets of how, despite hearing NO, more often than not and probably more than most people, she continues to choose success and build relationships of care while fulfilling her mission of helping people claim their brilliance.  You’ll hear humorous personal stories of resilience and tenacity—from Vicki’s childhood, to her years as a National Champion platform diver and high school administrator, to her life today as a bestselling author, speaker, learning experience designer, and trainer—how she was able to maintain focused energy despite challenges and inspire everyone around her to carry on and choose success for themselves.



Speaker Bio: Vicki Halsey

Dr. Victoria Halsey is an inspirational trainer, author, and instructional designer whose unique blend of energy, intellect, and passion engages people’s hearts and minds and motivates them to unleash their greatness. With skill and finesse, she communicates deeply with her clients to identify and address their needs and visions. Her presentations feature anecdotes that enable people to relax and laugh while learning—a key factor in creating highly effective experiences. Participants leave with renewed conviction to use their own insights to tackle key issues.

As Vice President of Applied Learning for The Ken Blanchard Companies®,Vicki partners with organizations to design and deliver programs that meet their needs through interactive workshops, keynotes,Webinars, podcasts, and other classroom and elearning experiences.

Vicki is the coauthor of Blanchard’s Legendary Service® program and the award- winning Situational Leadership® II blended elearning program. She also crafted the Master of Science in Executive Leadership graduate program for the University of San Diego.

Vicki’s latest book, Legendary Service:The Key Is to Care, coauthored with Ken Blanchard and Kathy Cuff, is a parable based on Blanchard’s Legendary Service customer service training program.Vicki is also the author of Brilliance by Design, an instructional design strategy with a learner-focused model. She is coauthor of The Hamster Revolution and The Hamster Revolution for Meetings. In addition, she is a coauthor of Ken Blanchard’s Leading at a Higher Level, an all-inclusive reference of Blanchard leadership philosophies and teachings.

Vicki received a bachelor’s degree in American studies from the University of California, Davis; a master’s degree in educational administration from San Diego State University; and a PhD in educational leadership from University of San Diego.
