Technology Management Certificate
The Technology Management Certificate Program is open to UC Santa Barbara undergraduates from any major. This program provides a path for innovative and dedicated students to gain in-depth understanding of cutting-edge entrepreneurial and business practices in global-technology based companies.
The Technology Management Certificate program consist of 16-18 required units. The required courses are a combination of UC Santa Barbara courses and UCSB Extension courses. The program may be completed in as few as three (3) quarters; however, it may be more manageable to spread the coursework over two (2) academic years. (Effective Fall 2014)
A student has to have upper division standing. Also the prerequisite for these select courses, TMP 124 and TMP 127, is a grade of B- or better in TMP 120.
Required TMP Courses (14 units)
TMP 111 Lecture Series - 2 units (1 unit/quarter, 2 quarters required, in other words you take the course twice)
TMP 120 Fundamentals of Business Strategy - 4 units (GATEWAY course to TMP 124 and TMP 127)
TMP 124 Principles of Marketing - 4 units (pre-requisite is completing TMP 120 with a B- or better)
TMP 127 Understanding and Managing Technology Organizations - 4 units (pre-requisite is completing TMP 120 with a B- or better)
Required UCSB (Extension) Professional and Continuing Education Course (4 units)
This course is taught through the UCSB Professional and Continuing Education (formerly known as UCSB Extension) and you cannot enroll via GOLD https://professional.ucsb.edu/
Courses offered for the certificate are a combination of approved Technology Management undergraduate courses and approved UC Santa Barbara Extension courses (X130 series). To register for Extension courses, please visit the UCSB Extension website. Coursework and grades will be reported on two separate and independent transcripts: one from UC Santa Barbara and another from UCSB Extension. In order to be eligible to earn the certificate, students must earn a B average in all courses for the certificate program, and with no grade below a C.
Extension Course Transfer Credit
Courses taken through UCSB Extension will not count as units towards being a full time student for the quarter. If you would like to have the units for your Extension courses applied towards graduation, you must file a petition with your College (Engineering, Letters & Science, or Creative Studies) prior to the beginning of the course. All Extension courses are letter graded, but when transferred to your UC Santa Barbara transcript, these grades will not be factored into your GPA.
Applying for the Certificate
To receive your certificate in the 2016-17 academic year, your application must be submitted to UCSB Extension by May 31, 2017. Click here to apply.
