Ph.D. Student
Fares Ahmad is a Ph.D. candidate in the Technology Management Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida and his Master of Social Science from UCLA. He has over a decade of international experience scaling technologies for organizations such as Procter & Gamble, Apple, Boeing, and GE Aviation. Broadly, his research interests span technology, organizing, and emotions, with a guiding question: How can our relationship with emerging technologies create more empathic teams, organizations and societies? Fares is currently studying the intersection of compassion and technology, with a focus on how AI influences our ability to notice, feel, and alleviate suffering in organizational life. Additionally, his research aims to unpack human-AI work practices in highly emotional contexts, the transformation of human-centered socialization in the age of AI, and how organizational dynamics shift when AI surfaces emotions at work. Fares is also in training for licensure as a professional clinical counselor and marriage and family therapist.
