About John
John teaches Principles of Finance for the Technology Management Program (TMP) and the Fundamentals of Business Finance course for Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) at UCSB. John has also been a guest lecturer in TM’s Fundamentals of Business Strategy course as well as for UCSB’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Engineering Management. John spent 13 years in various finance, IT, and factory logistics positions at Intel Corporation, domestically and overseas. This was followed by 19 years within Intel Corporation’s venture capital arm (“Intel Capital”), primarily managing external engagements involving licensing, joint product or joint technology development, and/or equity investments.
Prior to Intel Corporation,John worked for three different airlines and the National Park Service. In addition to his business background, John has 30 years of experience in local government, including 20 years as an elected director for one of the largest special districts in Oregon plus numerous appointments to various municipal, special district, and regional government initiatives focused on policy, budget, and funding questions or endeavors.
John has a BA (history) from UCSB and an MBA (management) from UCLA. He holds certifications in logistics (Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Tennessee) and in mergers & acquisitions (Stanford University). John is also a certified management accountant (CMA).
