Phil Carpenter
Phil teaches marketing with UCSB's Technology Management Department and has also served as a long-time coach for student teams participating in the school's annual New Venture Competition. Phil is the founder of Ronin, a fractional CMO firm focused on early stage tech startups. He also advises and invests in select startups and is the board chair for Ventech, a non-profit focused on building the tech and entrepreneurial communities in Santa Barbara.
Phil built the marketing function from the ground up at multiple high-growth companies, such as ALICE Technologies, which is bringing AI to the scheduling of complex construction projects, Yalo, Latin America’s leading conversational commerce company, and SideStep, which created the travel search engine category and was purchased by Kayak. Phil also served as senior partner for Allison+Partners, the global marketing services agency, where he ran the firm’s six west coast offices. In addition, he co-founded Whiskey Creek Properties, a real estate development company that builds multi-family rental properties in Phoenix, AZ. He received his BA from Stanford University and MBA from Harvard University.
