Finalist Teams Announced for 2017 New Venture Competition

Six teams will advance to the finals, a major highlight of UCSB’s New Venture Competition

The UC Santa Barbara Technology Management Program has announced six finalists who will compete at the 2017 New Venture Competition Finals on May 24th at Corwin Pavilion.

Collatera, CRYPTIX, Delta Leaf Labs, OrganicMatters, Phanta Field, and Wanderlease were selected from 20 student groups who recently presented their business ideas at the New Venture Fair last week. The following list the six team finalists moving on to the Finals:

Collatera

Michael Evans, Kevin Peng, Paul Ostrick, Vinu Krishnan, Vince Kappamula
Collatera’s aim is to avoid diabetes-related amputation at all costs with the prevention and early treatment of diabetic ulcers, by using their proprietary light activated small molecule, NL-1.

CRYPTIX

Nick Martitsch, Brayden Curry, Sajan Sangvhi
CRYPTIX is a next generation ticketing platform that uses blockchain technology to eliminate scalpers, ticket fraud, and inflated ticket prices.

Delta Leaf Labs

Elijah Spina, Felipe Infante, Edgar Rodriguez
Delta Leaf Labs is developing THC free-cannabis strains that have been medically shown to treat many mental and physical illnesses. By growing and marketing THC-free cannabis, the company will create alternative treatment options to toxic and addictive medications.

OrganicMatters

Jacob Levine, Lauren Catlin, Greg Maier
OrganicMatters manufactures certified organic fertilizer out of poultry waste from the egg industry. Our mission is to provide certified organic crop farmers with food-safe, nutrient-rich, affordable fertilizers that mitigate human, animal and environmental health problems associated with conventional poultry manure management strategies.

Phanta Field

Xuejun Xie, Edixon Puglisi, Dylan Rodriguez, Xiao Wang, Hujun Chen
PhantaField is crafting light field augmented reality glasses that enable 100-degree field of view and crystal clear image with a patented see-through display design. The display can seamlessly integrate with regular glass frames, that are comfortable to wear all day long.

Wanderlease

Shika Sharma, Arthur Pan, Rey Tang, Daniel Lim, Saliq Hussaini, Henry Yu
Wanderlease is a web-based application designed to streamline the process of subleasing.

This year, 35 teams entered into the competition with more than 130 student participants. Of the 35 student teams who entered in the competition, 20 teams were selected to present their business ideas at the New Venture Fair. The six team were finalists will now advance to the Finals for a chance to win prize money and compete for the title of 2017 Winner of UC Santa Barbara's New Venture Competition.

The 2017 New Venture Competition Finals will be held on Wednesday, May 24th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at UC Santa Barbara Corwin Pavilion. The event is free and open to the public.
