UC Santa Barbara's Master of Technology Management (MTM) offers motivated, early- to mid-career professionals the essential technology skills, business acumen, and entrepreneurial mindset to accelerate their careers and expand leadership opportunities within technology-driven firms.
As businesses face the challenges of rapid technological advancements, professionals must develop the technology and management skills to adapt and lead. The MTM program equips professionals with the tools to navigate and capitalize on these changes.
Partnering with MTM provides exclusive benefits, including a strong talent pipeline and enhanced brand visibility. Together, we cultivate leadership that not only adapts to the evolving business landscape but actively shapes it—driving sustainable growth and transformation across industries.
Host a Field Project
A cornerstone of the MTM program is the field project, during which MTM students work in teams and apply their technology management skills to solve business challenges. Field projects are designed as consulting projects to provide sponsoring companies with advice and support, as well as to enable MTM students to gain practical experience in analyzing and solving real-world problems. Past projects include human capital management, product-market validation, and technical innovation in contexts ranging from SaaS to sensor technology firms, and from emerging to established companies. See past project examples here.
Each project is assigned to a team of five MTM students, a faculty advisor, and a company representative(s). Students complete ten hours of work per week for five months (over two academic quarters). The project and program costs are supported by a tax-deductible, unrestricted gift of $10,000 per project by the company sponsor to the Department of Technology Management.
Field project partner companies experience direct value from the scope and goals of the project that addresses business challenges. Companies can evaluate and push forward new ideas by involving fresh and unbiased student collaborators. Field projects are also talent sourcing opportunities. Companies have access to students who are interested in working for their company and can recruit MTM students after observing their field project performance.

Organizations can also partner with MTM by hosting MTM students at their locations for site visits. These enable companies to introduce prospective talent to their organization while providing students an educational glimpse into the organization’s operations.
Participate in a Mock Interview
The MTM Mock Interview Program takes place each March-April and provides the opportunity to connect with our talented students, while giving the students invaluable real-world interview experience. Mock interviewers are paired with students and conduct a 30-45-minute virtual interview based on a real job description that aligns with the student’s career aspirations and target role.
