New Funding for TMP

A New Course for TMP...
TMP Lecturer John Greathouse will launch a new course for the program in spring of 2015. The course titled "Entrepreneurship: Past, Present and Future" will be the first class offered by TMP to all class levels. One of the goals of the course is to illustrate the adversity, challenges and contributions associated with entrepreneurs of the past, especially minorities and women. In support of the development of this course, and to assist in recruiting potential speakers for the program's Distinguished Speaker Series (which Greathouse also hosts) Greathouse applied for and received a Professional Development Grant from UC Santa Barbara. Greathouse says that, "this grant will serve as the foundation of a longer term project in which I will collaborate with UCSB's Film And Media Studies Department for the purposes of analyzing archival newsreel and amateur video of Negro League stars, such as Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson and Cool Papa Bell." We commend John on his innovative and entrepreneurial approach to advancing TMP's course offerings.
Research Efforts to Benefit TMP...
TMP Lecturer Karen S. Bogart will use her Professional Development Grant to assist in her current research project, “CEO Consideration of Board Contribution to Corporate Social Responsibility." This research explores whether the CEO of US public companies recognized as CSR leaders acknowledges board role and influence in their firm’s CSR efforts. If so, how does this perceived contribution occur? What is the perceived impact? We look forward to hearing more about Bogart's findings.
A New MVP Lab for UC Santa Barbara...
On the heels of TMP Entrepreneurial Programs Manager Mike Paneis' announcement that he will be stepping back from his position with us to pursue new avenues in entrepreneurial education it's with great pleasure that we announce that he has left us with an incredible parting gift. In early 2014 TMP was awarded $24k for the creation of a new Minimum Viable Product (MVP) Lab and Course from the NCIIA: National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance. The MVP Lab will be a resource for UCSB students and recent graduates in need of instruction and practical assistance for creating their MVP’s. Grant funds will be used to acquire the resources most commonly used for MVP creation and develop a curriculum for that could be the basis for a seminar series or for-credit course. The MVP lab and instruction will be made available to students and recent graduates in UCSB’s Lean Launchpad (LLP) class, NCIIA e-Teams, and Innovation Corps teams on campus.
