New Venture Competition

The Technology Management's New Venture Program and Competition is the premier tech entrepreneurship event on California's Central and South Coast. The New Venture Program engages undergraduate and graduate students from all academic disciplines who are driven to pursue entrepreneurial education alongside their core studies. Through hands-on instruction and industry mentorship, students learn to create and launch a startup business.

Established in 1999, Technology Management's Annual New Venture Competition (NVC) is UCSB's flagship entrepreneurial experience. Over the course of eight months, students work in multi-disciplinary teams under the guidance of faculty and mentors as they address a business problem or opportunity and take their business ideas from conception to reality.

MTM students gain first-hand insight into Santa Barbara-based companies ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations. These visits enable students to learn about different company missions, cultures, and hiring practices, as well as have a chance to connect with employees and leadership within each organization. These visits are high-impact activities that help to prepare MTM students for both their job search and their careers.
