Announcing: UCSB’s Engineering + Technology Management (E+TM) Fellows Program

UCSB’s College of Engineering and the Department of Technology Management are pleased to announce a new opportunity for outstanding UCSB students to earn two degrees in five years.  Joining the College’s offerings of five-year BS+Master’s programs, this new pathway to the Master of Technology Management (MTM) will equip future technology leaders with the skills to manage technical teams and drive continuous innovation.

The new E+TM Fellows Program provides engineering majors a guaranteed financial aid fellowship for the MTM graduate degree as well as a year of pre-MTM professional development during their senior year. Through this program and in just five years, the E+TM Fellows will have the combined technical expertise and foundation in business and management principles to launch successful careers as leaders in tech.

ABOUT MTM

UCSB’s Master of Technology Management (MTM) graduate program offers motivated, early- to mid-career professionals the essential technology skills, business acumen, and entrepreneurial mindset to accelerate their careers and expand leadership opportunities within technology-driven firms. Through MTM, students with engineering backgrounds build on their technical knowledge and gain the skills and experience to lead technical teams. For example, meet UCSB alum Aamir Rehman, Mechanical Engineering 2023 and MTM 2024 graduate. One aspect of the MTM program that Aamir particularly valued was the Field Project, in which he worked with a team to solve a real-world challenge at a local company, Teledyne FLIR. Amir noted: “I really enjoyed getting this experience, because coming from an engineering degree, you work on a lot of technical projects but you don't get to do a lot of the management side of engineering and learn about how to make teams work together.” Now, Aamir is in his dream job in aerospace, working as a project manager to help develop high-orbit satellites that will bring internet access to communities around the world. You can view more stories of MTM alumni with engineering backgrounds on our MTM Alumni Pathways story wall here

E+TM FELLOWS PROGRAM

There are two key components to the E+TM Fellows Program:

  1. E+TM Fellows are guaranteed a Student Aid Fellowship during the MTM year that will be applied to reduce the Professional Degree Supplemental Tuition (PDST) of the MTM degree. For 2026-27, the guaranteed fellowship amount is $15,450.
  2. After gaining admission into the Fellows Program during the summer between junior and senior year, E+TM Fellows will meet monthly as a cohort during their senior year and participate in a series of enrichment and professionalization opportunities such as exclusive meetings with industry leaders, company site visits, and skill-building workshops.

Of note:

  1. There will be additional diversity- and need-based fellowship funds that MTM applicants will be considered for automatically and that will be awarded on a competitive basis to supplement the guaranteed E+TM Fellowship.
  2. During the pre-MTM (senior) year there will also be an emphasis placed on securing an internship for the summer between the BS and MTM degrees. MTM will offer the E+TM Fellows career support in finding, applying for, and securing summer internships.
