The Department of Technology Management’s popular undergraduate certificate program saw major increases throughout the 2025-2026 school year, a testament to the department’s continued growth and success amongst the UCSB student population.

The program saw a 27% increase in the number of students taking TMP X101 (the foundational course required for all certificate students to take), with 414 students completing the class during the 2024-2025 school year, compared to the year prior’s 327 students.

Most notably, the number of students completing the certificate jumped from 177 graduates of the program to 267, marking a 51% increase between the 24-25 and 25-26 school years.

Open to undergraduates from all majors, the Certificate Graduating Class of 2026 included students of all backgrounds; Communications, Economics, Sociology, Statistics, and Economics & Accounting made up the top majors represented within the graduating class. Emblematic of this diverse group of students was the 2026 Certificate Graduation Speaker Molly Mascal, a Sociology major and Poverty, Inequality, and Social Justice minor who also participated in the New Venture Program, presenting her product at the finals in May. Ten of the graduating students will be staying at UCSB and pursuing the Master of Technology Management program.

The undergraduate Certificate in Technology Management program is a popular choice for Gauchos interested in technology, business, management, or entrepreneurship. The dynamic program is designed to give students not only a competitive edge in today's tech-driven world, but a strong foundation of skills that are required to succeed in business and beyond.

The Department is looking ahead to another school year of continued growth and innovation. "We're excited to welcome two new lecturers to the program this year, Shea Tate-DiDonna and Mike Roberts, who will be teaching Entrepreneurship." says Katie Trigg, Student Affairs Manager for the certificate students. "We'll also have new peer advisors joining our team in 26-27, to help support our growing student population. We look forward to new students beginning the program this year, and anticipate an even larger graduating class in 2027!"
