UCSB’s Division of Humanities and Fine Arts and the Department of Technology Management have partnered to provide an opportunity for outstanding UCSB students to earn two degrees in five years. Joining the College’s offerings of five-year Bachelor's + Master’s programs, this pathway to the Master of Technology Management (MTM) will equip humanists and artists with the skills to thrive in today's digital economy.
The HumTech Fellows Program provides HFA majors a guaranteed financial aid fellowship for the MTM graduate degree, as well as a year of pre-MTM professional development during their senior year. Through this program and in just five years, the HumTech Fellows will have the combined technical expertise and foundation in business and management principles to launch successful careers in tech-driven industries.

"[MTM] aligns with my partial tech background and has the room for creativity that I explored in my English major, and it combines both of those things, which I really like."
Sabrina Chisholm - English (UCSB), MTM Class of '24 |

"In my dance classes, I had different choreography classes that allowed me to work collaboratively with the other dancers, and I really liked that aspect of being able to work together as a team to build something. I kind of merged those two things together, getting my chemistry analytical brain with technology and such, and then that more artsy collaborative brain, putting that together to find that I wanted to be a project manager in my career...I did [MTM] and learned pretty much everything about business that I needed to be able to excel."
Michael Curtis - Chemistry + Dance (UC Berkeley), MTM Class of '20 |

"I want to see more people like me out there. . .I work with so many amazing marketers and program managers and people who studied all sorts of things, whether it was history or (in my case) English. I think that makes for a much more diverse and interesting team, because you get so many more interesting perspectives and ways of approaching work."
Jessica Carpenter - English + Spanish (UCSB), MTM Class of '20 |
HumTech Fellows Program
There are two key components to the HumTech Fellows Program:
-
HumTech Fellows are guaranteed admission into MTM and a Student Aid Fellowship during the MTM year that will be applied to reduce the Professional Degree Supplemental Tuition (PDST) of the MTM degree. For 2027-28, the guaranteed fellowship amount is $16,500.
-
After gaining admission into the Fellows Program during the summer between junior and senior year, HumTech Fellows will meet monthly as a cohort during their senior year and participate in a series of enrichment and professionalization opportunities such as exclusive meetings with industry leaders, company site visits, and skill-building workshops.
HumTech Fellows apply to the MTM degree in fall of their senior year through Graduate Division’s online application. There will be additional fellowship funds that MTM applicants will be considered for automatically and that will be awarded on a competitive basis to supplement the guaranteed HumTech Fellowship.
