About Mitchell
Mitchell is currently retired, and has been teaching at UCSB since 2016. Before his retirement, he spent 35 years in a career centered around building and managing Kauffman Wealth Management. In the years prior, he worked in financial planning and advising, as well as marketing, both based out of Southern California.
Outside of his professional experience, Mitchell has also received a variety of distinctions. In regards to his advising, he was given the Advisor “Hall of Fame” Award (1 of 5 nationally) in the Research Magazine, and was named one of Top 500 Registered Investment Advisors Nationally in the Financial Advisor Magazine. He was also on the Chairman’s Council Financial Advisors at Raymond James & Wells Fargo Finet Financial Services. Beyond his professional work, Mitchell has a black belt in taekwondo and kenpo martial arts, and has received a certification as an Advanced Open Water SCUBA Diver from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).
Mitchell has also been involved in philanthropic efforts. He currently works with the Walter H. Capps Center for Study of Ethics, Religion & Public Life, UCSB, and has also held titles such as the Board Secretary and Investment Committee Chair at the Union Station Homeless Services, Pasadena; and the Executive Chair, Vice Chair, and Treasurer at Social Venture Partners in Santa Barbara.
He is now the grandfather of 15-year-old twin girls who live in Montecito and are competitive horsewomen. He’s also an avid alpine skier!
