About Ted
Ted teaches business strategy within UCSB’s College of Engineering’s Technology Management Program. With over 30 years of experience in high-tech, he has held leadership roles as general manager and leader of product management, marketing, strategic planning, and product development.
Ted began his career as a rocket engineer, developing control algorithms for the Delta rocket, a predecessor to SpaceX. After earning his MBA, he joined Hewlett-Packard (HP), where he led a product management team that launched the HP 9000 engineering workstation, generating over $1 billion in revenue. Following HP, Ted served as VP at Storage Dimensions where he pivoted the company to capitalize on the emerging Windows NT market. That spurred significant revenue growth and enabled the company to go public.
At Prisa Networks, Ted served as EVP of product development and marketing, helping its founder/CEO transition the company from hardware to software. His efforts helped secure funding from Intel Capital and established Prisa as the supplier of networked storage management software for Compaq and Dell. After Prisa was acquired by EMC (now part of Dell), Ted served as CTO and VP product management for multiple EMC divisions. He later became Senior VP and General Manager of a $200 million division at Adaptec, a NASDAQ-listed data storage company.
Ted holds a BS and M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from Harvard. He and his wife, Eileen, reside in the scenic foothills of Santa Barbara. They enjoy spending time with their two sons, daughters-in-law, and three grandsons. An avid long-distance runner, Ted has completed 25 marathons and qualified for the Boston Marathon three times. He also enjoys skiing, having raced and ski jumped for the Cornell Ski Team. He can be found running throughout Santa Barbara, wing foiling at Leadbetter Beach, or surfing off Devereaux.
