Ting Xiao is a scholar specializing in innovation and strategy. She holds dual undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics from China, and received a PhD in Business Administration from The Ohio State University in the US. While pursuing her PhD, she simultaneously completed a master degree in Economics and a minor in Statistics at OSU. Upon graduation, she joined the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University as an assistant professor. After the COVID pandemic, she relocated to the US, particularly drawn to California, to continue her academic career.

Ting’s research and teaching focuses predominantly on innovation strategy. She explores how firms search for knowledge, recombine it, and leverage networks to drive innovations, drawing upon big data analysis, machine learning and AI. Her work has been published in leading academic journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, and others. Her Chinese publications have also appeared in top outlets including People’s Daily theory page and Harvard Business Review, among others. She actively integrates her research insights into courses for undergraduate, MBA, PhD, and executive students, teaching foundational courses such as Strategic Management. She also teaches specialized topics, including AI Business Model Innovation, and Big Data & AI: Firm Innovation and Strategic Transformation.

Ting has served as the principal investigator for several major research projects funded by organizations from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China from which she received a special official for her research contributions advancing the understanding of innovation strategy in the high-end equipment manufacturing industry. She also won multiple teaching awards in China. During the summers, she and her students stayed in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to support local minority entrepreneurs and government efforts to develop a big data platform for the ramen industry, helping them transition into digital business. These efforts earned official recognition from the Qinghai provincial government for outstanding contributions to regional development. These diverse experiences continue to foster Ting’s growth as both a scholar and an educator.
