Overview of costs

We offer a competitive funding package to admitted students based on five years of funding. The financial package includes support for tuition, fees, health insurance and a stipend for housing and living expenses. Funding is provided by a combination of GSR, TA and fellowships as described below. A student needs a 50% appointment every quarter to cover the costs of the program and living expenses. Students also receive a summer stipend to support their research. Details of a particular offer are made in the offer letter upon admission.

For a complete description of UC Santa Barbara’s graduate student quarterly fee structure for residents and nonresidents please visit Graduate Division's website on fees and costs. Note that these costs for residents and non-resident students are generally covered by the financial aid package offered to admitted students.

Graduate Student Research (GSR) Positions:

GSR positions pay a monthly salary plus fees, health insurance, and tuition. Positions are funded by individual faculty members and are generally 50% appointments (20 hours/week).

TAships pay a monthly salary plus fees, health insurance, and tuition. A 50% TA (20 hours/week) will support our master or undergraduate program instructors. Offers are made by the department.

Most fellowships pay a quarterly stipend plus fees and health insurance and tuition. Fellowships have no work or academic service expectations. Offers are made by the department or UCSB's Graduate Division.

Technology Management is committed to funding all Ph.D. students for 5 years through a combination of the types of support outlined above.
