Welcome New MTM Faculty: Renee Rottner of NYU Stern School of Business and Stephen Barley of Stanford

We are delighted to welcome two outstanding new faculty members to the Master of Technology Management program this Fall.

Renee Rottner's headshotRenee Rottner comes to us from New York University’s Stern School of Business, where she taught leadership and entrepreneurship in the department of Management and Organizations.

Dr. Rottner’s research and teaching focuses on innovation, particularly how innovators can improve the development of new ideas and new firms and she’s examined innovation in a range of settings, including Caltech spinoffs, NASA projects, semiconductor startups, and Federal nanotechnology initiatives.

Dr. Rottner received her M.S. in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University, and her Ph.D. in Management from UC Irvine.

Stephen Barley headshotStephen Barley comes to us from Stanford University, where he was the Richard Weiland Professor of Management Science and Engineering, the Associate Chair of the Department of Management Science and Engineering (2011-2015), and was the Co-founder and Co-director of the Center for Work, Technology and Organization at Stanford's School of Engineering.

He has authored over sixty scholarly articles and other works, serves on a number of editorial boards, has won many awards and is a Fellow of the Academy of Management.   In 2006 the Academy of Management Journal named Barley as the author of the largest number of interesting articles in the field of management studies.

Dr. Barley teaches courses on the organizational implications of technological change, organizational theory, social network analysis and ethnographic field methods. He has served as a consultant to organizations in a variety of industries including publishing, banking, computers, electronics and aerospace.

Dr. Barley received his PhD in Organization Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

We are thrilled to have these two incredible new colleagues joining the MTM team and bringing even greater depth and breadth to the program.  Like our students, they recognized the high quality and rigor of the program we are building, and in coming here, they bring their passion to help launch and grow this innovative program in technology management. It’s a very exciting time and we are excited to share it with all of you.
